DAY 8: I SHOULD REALLY BE A MERMAID

My observations about the culture today remained the same for the most part. However, we were able to interact with the Creole people today because they were our captains for our snorkeling excursion! These people seemed very laid back and devoted to what they were doing. In reference to my perceptions, I really didn’t know what to think about the Creole people because I’ve never had any interaction with them before. We also took a stroll through the town of Punta Gorda. We passed through the market where we saw a variety of food and people, including the Mennonites (why I am obsessed with these people - I do not know). I felt like this town was rather dirty compared to the previous towns we visited.

The activity with the greatest significance today was snorkeling and visiting the gentlemen at the station. I loved soaking up the sun and admiring the pristine waters of Belize. Today I learned that the Chinese people own several convenience stores in Punta Gorda. I feel like this trip has taught me to be open to other cultures. I love all things traditional but sometimes change and diversity are good things, which will help me professionally.

Tomorrow will begin our long journey home. I hope to learn more about the culture and hopefully that our puddle jumper plane is safe!
